As Mary Poppins said “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” The actors and crew in McNary's theater department are having fun doing the job of bringing the musical "Mary Poppins" to life.

Students are preparing for the 2022-2023 school year musical. This year, the McNary Theater Arts Program is doing a Mary Poppins.

“This production has so many hard working people and lots of entertaining characters that I can't wait for McNary to see,” said Talia Medlin, a senior at McNary high school, who is playing Mary Poppins in the production.

Mary Poppins will be performed in the Kens Collins theater, January 25-28 and February 1-4.

“I’m very excited about the set, it will be very intricate and eye-catching,” Medlin said. She’s excited to be the lead and that it’s an experience she will remember for the rest of her life. She is nervous about the choreography.

“There will be lots of skilled dancing that will take quite some time to learn,” Medlin said.

She didn't specifically audition for the lead, it just so happened that she landed the part and she is happy it worked out the way it did. The most difficult part of the entire play process for Medlin is the quick change during the song “Jolly Holiday.” She changes into Mary’s white dress, which is handmade by Lily Purkey.

Kiele Jarnagin, also a senior this year at McNary, is playing Mrs. Banks in the musical. Keile said she is most excited for the Jolly Holiday number.

“It’s just a great song and a big number,” Jarnagin said. Getting into character has been the hardest part for her.

“Mrs. Banks' husband is controlling and I’m a very independent person.and its It's hard to be like:  ‘Mr. Banks, I love you’,” Jarnagin said.
