McNary’s construction teacher Mr. Bob Robison, and his class have been building a sensory garden for the gardening club. They are building one for now and plan to make more in the future.

The Gardening club applied and received a grant from Maps Credit Union to build a sensory garden in the courtyard space for students to have a reason to come out and enjoy the space

“They applied and received a grant from Maps Credit Union,” Robison said.

A sensory garden is stimulating and engages the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch and taste. It helps with kids or people that are more hyperactive and is a great help to calm them down.

The geometry and construction class and construction tech two class and the construction management class are the classes that have been working on this project. They learned from this project to make small adjustments to the garden box.

“I've learned that the way we have originally started setting the brackets we need to make a small adjustment in how those brackets are spending between two tiers of four by fours to tie each level together better,” Robison said.

The Gardening club is working on building an irrigation system using one of the hose bibs to help water the garden; it will be an automatic watering system or a manual watering system.

“The garden club is working on building an irrigation system here as well utilizing the hose bib,” Robison said.
