As Taylor Swift releases “Midnights Mayhem With Me,” McNary students and staff experience “mayhem” waiting for the Midnights album to drop Oct. 21 at 12am.

Every Wednesday, Swift dropped a track name on the social media app Tik Tok at midnight for those in the eastern time zone. “I absolutely loved Midnight Mayhem with me, I think it was super fun having something to look forward to each week, especially since we only had to wait till 9pm on the coast!” Senior Audrey Thompson said.

Senior Natalie Gallowa said she “Saw a video on Tik Tok and then on Instagram” and did “deep diving” to find all the new updates on Swift.

Teacher Andrew Tennant says he’s “down for T Swift.”

Swift has practiced different styles of music throughout her albums. McNary students have predictions of what the Midnights album will be like: “I feel like it’s going to be more like her Red album,” said Gallowa. “I’m thinking this album will lean more 1989 pop mixed with Folklore lyrics, but knowing her you’ll never know until it comes out,” said Thompson.

Swift has been releasing easter eggs before her Reputation album in 2016 leading fans to believe that there would be an album called “Karma” contributing to another theory that she released her Reputation album instead, because of the media.

When Track 11 was revealed as being named “Karma,” students were shocked: “Karma was definitely the most jaw dropping title reveal, I mean deities have been theorizing an album or song with that name for years, so it’s super exciting! As someone who stuck through the snake era, it's very fun to think of what it could be,” said Thompson.

Students are already planning how Oct. 21 will look for them: “listening to everything, all of it,” said Gallowa. “I’ll be spending my Oct. 21 streaming the songs then going to Target for the deluxe cd,” said Thompson.

It’s official that Swift will be going on tour for the first time since 2018 and rumors include that this will be the most expensive one yet. Thompson said “I’m hoping getting tickets for the next concert won’t be terribly hard, but we worked pretty hard to get them for 1989 and Rep so the stakes are high,” she also said, “I would spend my whole savings account just to go.”

“I listened to Taylor Swift when I was younger a lot, but I kind of fell out,” said Senior Minnie Jones. Jones is excited about Swift’s Midnights album, quote: “Yes, because recently I said to my friend I want to be a Taylor Swift fan, because I like the vibe and her music.”

Thompson, who has been a fan her whole life says “My love for Taylor started way as a kid and escalated since then. I’ve been to two concerts now with my dad who is equally as big as a swiftie as I am.”
