Students at McNary like Senior London Brouhard were “horrified, offended and outraged” after hearing the allegations against Indie-Pop singer and musician Rex Orange County for 6 counts of sexual assault.

After a woman accused him of attacking her six separate times over the course of two days, Rex Orange County also known as Alexander O’Connor has a provisional trial date set for January  3, 2023. According to The Guardian the occurrence happened once in a taxi, and two more times at his home. The woman is over the age of 16.

Having very popular music, students are shocked: “Given off of the music he makes, I wouldn't figure he’d do something like that,” and that the allegation “makes music sinister,” Senior Becker Moore said.

McNary students changed their point of view of him, like Junior Asher who is “disappointed in him, honestly and disgusted.”

Some students never even found O’Connor’s music “spectacular” but Sophomore Eden Watson said “that's the cherry on top.”

Most students asked said they wouldn’t continue listening to Rex Orange County’s music even though allegations have not been confirmed. Sophomore Millie Sanders will not be listening to O'Connell's music anymore, “Because one I’m not a super mega fan, two I can’t support someone who can’t keep their hands to themselves.”

Moore who “Can’t think of another artist with such rumors or allegations,” says he will “probably not” be listening to O’Connor’s music. “it’s not the same anymore” quoting O’Connor’s song “It’s Not The Same Anymore.”

“If the allegations were confirmed, I would stop because I don’t want to support that,” Senior Emmera Geck said. Asher will “be listening to where he can’t profit off of it.”

Students like Watson are certain he won’t be found guilty.

“mostly just because he’s famous and even if he is, he won’t spend much jail time because he’s famous.” Watson said.

Due to the possibility that the woman accusing him could be lying, Senior Tay Valdez says there’s a “really high chance the allegations are true, really small chance she’s trying to get fame.”
