The 2022-23 football season is in full swing and it seems McNary varsity is in a rut.

“ We have been improving each week,” said Connor Astley, The Varsity, JV and Freshman head football coach.

Even though they have a losing streak  of 0-7, he still hopes to continue working on “creating and establishing a culture of strength and to make playoffs.”

One of their closest games so far, according to Mr. Astley, was against North Salem. They were 14-7 before North Salem's Quarterback threw a fifty yard touchdown bringing the score 21-7.

“Coming out of the half we had missed opportunities to score that we missed, but our defense played great and shut them out,” Astley said.

When working to improve themselves Mr. Astley wants his players, especially his key players such as quarterback Jackson Alt, linebacker Hunter Roberto, and running back Jake Allen, to focus on the fundamentals of “Trust and communication”.

The Celtics have been improving their team in a few ways since last year by establishing a leadership program in their football team and volunteering within school programs and the community itself.

Mr. Astley hopes that people come to see the game, McNary versus Medford, on October 21.
