Teachers learned last Thursday that the Salem-Keizer School District will be making substantial cuts in the coming school year.

Principal Mr. Scott Gragg announced on April 11 that the school district will be conducting a meeting this month regarding a reduction in force.

On April 11, Mr. Gragg announced that Salem-Keizer Public Schools will be doing a RIF (reduction in force). This will result in approximately 400 teachers being cut and 800 being transferred throughout the district. This will affect licensed teachers, program associates, and administrators.

After the board passes this resolution, administrators will receive their staffing allocations and finalize schedules. They will start by identifying specific positions, then individual employees that are impacted by the reduction will be identified. The district says they will send out formal notifications of reduction notices, administrative transfers, and new assignments in May.

The district is working on holding a non-student contact day to allow these conversations to be held.

The school board will meet in April to pass a RIF resolution to start the process. From April-May, they will be touching on licensed, classified, program associates, and administrators. This will not immediately affect staff but instead go into effect over the summer.
