Playing a sport is something meaningful for many people. For two McNary players, it was their fathers who inspired them to play.

For sophomore Derick Cuello, playing soccer has kept him active since he was about nine years old. It was his father who first inspired him to play the game.

‍

He was 10 years old when he started playing for United PDX and 10th grade is his first year playing for McNary High. The position he plays for is center defense mid. His favorite team player here at McNary is Jonathan Ruiz and his favorite soccer player is Messi. 

Cuello likes to stay active all the time so running is his favorite thing about soccer.

“Some advice I'd give to someone about this sport is to have a good mindset about soccer,” Cuello said.

‍

Luis Aguilar, freshman soccer player, has been playing the sport since he was five years old. 

‍

 “I see myself playing soccer in the future and I'm also gonna keep playing for McNary,” Aguilar said. 

‍

His dad inspired him to play soccer. He is on the JV team for McNary High and plays for CFC outside of school. 

‍

The position Aguilar plays for is left back. Nico Rivas is one of his favorite team players and Messi is his favorite soccer player. He likes everything about soccer but defending.
