Miss. Sarah Ruzicka is the newest social studies teacher at McNary—this is her first year. She teaches sociology and psychology.

Ruzicka always knew what job she wanted, even at a young age.

 “I wanted to be a teacher. Well, I wanted to be a politician or a teacher,” Ruzicka said. “I wanted to do something with social studies. [...] I wanted to help people better understand social studies. Social studies is important—it teaches you about politics, human science, and other important things about the social nature of humans.”

“I like to go hiking. I like to read. I like to paddle board in the summer. [I like to] go to museums,” Ruzicka said. She knows so many science facts, it took her a bit to find a juicy one: that the human body can heal certain diseases/illnesses by practicing mindfulness, which is a form of meditation in which you focus on being aware of what you’re sensing and feeling without judgement.
