New semester 2 hall passes

As we approach our 6 week progress marker this semester, most if not all students, are well aware that during semester 2 the staff have set new hall pass rules.

This new rule requires students who need to go or leave class to fill out a bright green hall pass which includes the date, name, and a teacher's signature.

Students will then need to put their phone in a phone box, because the phone box is a type of collateral. This way, when students leave a valuable thing, like a phone, with the teacher, students can leave class and handle business without teachers having to worry about students taking advantage of their time, or skipping class. Phone boxes are strictly meant to make sure that students return back to class.

As a student myself, my opinion on these new rules is very simple. I believe that the hall passes are just an extra hassle for everyone when they need to leave class. I do understand that hallpasses are able to help teachers keep track of the students who are supposed to be out of class, and those who are not.

Teenagers these days, including myself, are not too fond of handing their phones over to our teachers. Since I go everywhere with my phone, it was bothersome at the beginning of the 6 weeks. However, I've learned to be fine with leaving my phone in class with the phone box.

Personally, I believe that hall passes have been quite effective in the past 4 weeks. I notice students in class getting more comfortable, and used to this new system of hall passes and phone boxes.

It's nice seeing peers not skipping out on class or taking advantage of their restroom privileges and missing out on lessons or important conversations in class.
