Strike! McNary High School has a bowling team held at The Rec from 4pm-6pm Mondays and Wednesdays.

Everyone is welcome to attend, don't be shy to show up. Senior Edward Hyson has been a member of McNary’s bowling club since he was a Freshman.

“I had my sister originally in it so that made me want to join. I’ve been bowling since 8th grade,” Hyson said.

No experience is needed, just come out and try it, you don’t need to bring anything. The coaches are Scott and Paula even though they aren’t staff at the school, they love to see new faces come out to play.

“They have been doing this for a few years now and it seems like they’re just loving to be a part of it. They’re really great coaches,” Hyson said.

The bowling team is very competitive. It goes through the same process as many other sport such as: having Districts that is held during the month of February, if they do well at districts then move up and go to All States.

“The process goes on and on until there is a winner and I believe they receive a trophy,” Hyson said.

Having more players is a lot better because tournaments take about all day. Having 8 to 10 people will make things run alot smoother and easier.

“It’s better to have more. It helps people move around and enjoy their time and talk to other rather than being in the same spot,” Hyson said.

There’s no uniform for practices but when it comes to tournaments the person are expected to wear their bowling shoes, black pants and their bowling shirt. No gear is provided. Scott and Puala are able to help the ones that are needing help.

“They’re willing to help to find anything that you are indeed of,” Hyson said.

The bowling team does a few fundraisers. They do bowl-a-thon which is people paying fun amounts of money or they pay per pin. They also do a lot of smaller fundraising.

“People can pay a $1 per pin. So if a person gets 178 then that’s $178,” Hyson explained.
