After a almost scoreless first half by the Kansas City Chiefs, they came back and won an overtime thriller beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22.

Super bowl 58 was the second ever super bowl to have overtime come into effect. This year's Super Bowl saw a rematch from Super Bowl 54 between the 49ers and Chiefs.

First position of the game saw an early slip up from the 49ers as all-pro halfback (running back) Christian McCaffery fumbled the ball and was picked up by the Chiefs. After that played a lot of back-and–forth possessions that did not really lead to anything. The first quarter ended with a 0-0 tie.

The second quarter gave its first opportunity to score. With 49ers kicker Jake Moody making a record 55 yard kick to put the score at 3-0 for the 49ers.

The 49ers scored on that kick, later in the quarter the 49ers would have halfback Christian McCaffery throwing a 21 yard pass to wide receiver Jauan Jennings for a touchdown, following the extra point, giving the 49ers a 10-0 lead late into the 2nd quarter.

Right before the quarter ends, the Chiefs would respond with a 28 yard field goal by Harrison Butker with the score at halftime being 10-3 49ers lead.

The third quarter started off  rocky with Patrick Mahomes fumbling on the first play of the quarter. Then two plays later throwing an Interception to Ji’Ayir Brown.

The Chiefs would recover from the questionable start to the second half by having their kicker Harrison Butker kicking a new record high of 57 yards for a field goal. Putting the score to 10-6 with the 49ers still holding the lead.

Then minutes later responding with Patrick Mahomes throwing a 16 yard touchdown to Marquez Valdes-Scantling giving the Chiefs their first lead of the game after the extra point 13-10.

Going into the fourth quarter. The 49ers would respond after a scoreless third quarter by their quarterback Brock Purdy throwing a Touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings for 10 Yards. But the excitement from the score would immediately be detained with the extra point being blocked. Making the score 16-13 giving the 49ers back the lead.

The last three possessions of the game were met by field goals. Two by the Chiefs and one by the 49ers.

The Superbowl for the second time ever would go into overtime with a tie at 19.

The 49ers would win the coin toss and elect to receive the ball first. The 49ers drive would be a lengthy drive that would fall short and have to end with a field goal giving the Chiefs one last chance at winning the game.

With little over seven minutes left in the game, head coach Andy Reid would call his team down the field. Leading Patrick Mahomes threw a game winning touchdown with three seconds left on the clock bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to Kansas City Missouri and the Super Bowl  MVP going to Patrick Mahomes.
