Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Oct. 12 in their advisory class.

“Searching PSAT 8/9, the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and the ASVAB online will give you more student guides,” said testing coordinator Jose Miramontes-Zaragoza.

The PSAT/NMSQT student guides were handed out to Juniors in advisory on Oct.4.

Mr. Miramontes says to prepare for testing day by bringing your ID, snacks with closed containers and water. Students must turn off their cell phones and electronic devices; for electronic devices will be handed to the proctor. This includes cell phones and electronic watches.

Mr. Miramontes will be sending all juniors an email with a link to guides and everything they need, as well as the calculator policy and the room number they are expected to be in on testing day.

“Take the PSAT to get a good score, so students will be put on a list that makes them viable for grants and scholarships,” Mr. Miramontes said.

The College and Career center recommends using https://www.khanacademy.org/sat for Juniors taking the PSAT/NMSQT, as well as Seniors taking the SATs.

Senior Lillian Besa who has already taken the PSAT said to prepare for the test by “Reading the SAT prep book and practicing tests online by googling SAT practice.”

“Tik Tok has some great people that work you through the problems,”Besa said,“I recommend that you take it seriously and study the format for SAT too.”

Junior, Pawit Potisuk, is currently preparing for the PSAT. ”Take practice tests and study past notes and use weekends for online tests,” He said.

“Taking the PSAT helps [your] chances for the SAT,”Potisuk said.

Another Junior taking the PSAT is Kelsey Jarnagin who says “I think we’re all yolo-ing it this year.”

Homeschooled students are advised to contact Jose Miramontes as soon as possible
