The McNary Celtics Varsity team was bested by the West Salem Titans Friday night during the McNary 2021 homecoming football game. The final score at the end of the night was 24-34 Titans.

“I think we played good. There were just a couple big plays, a couple fumbles that lead to the other team scoring,” said Spencer Millis, number 56, a senior playing for McNary.

The first touchdown of the game was made by the West Salem Titans minutes into the game.  Meanwhile, our McNary cheerleaders kept their spirits high.

With 7:29 into the 1st quarter, McNary ran a rush at the 5-yard line and scored a touchdown. In doing so, however, number 4, the starting quarterback, gets injured during the play. It was number 20, Zane Aicher that scored the touchdown.

“It felt good but it was right before we lost our quarterback so not as exciting as it should have been,” said Aicher when asked how it felt when scoring.

After another McNary touchdown, followed by a touchdown from West, number 16 Pierce Walker intercepted a pass, turning the ball over to McNary with 15 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

After the 1st half of the game the score was 14-28. Half time consisted of a performance from the marching band as well as an introduction to this year's homecoming court.

McNary and West Salem both acquire one more touchdown in the second half leaving with a final score of 27-34 up against the Titans.

“I was really hoping we would win. The boys did great tonight. I wish we could have pulled in a win but I'm very proud,” said Kelsey Jarnagin, a cheerleader for McNary.
