A year-long competition may seem tiring to most, but not for the chess club. From the beginning of the school year, chess club had made a bracket that they use to go through games the whole year. The bracket is made with everyone involved in the club and throughout the year they go through matches until they get to winners and medalists. The club meets every Tuesday right after school, sometimes until four o’clock.
Linda Olson, who runs the Chess Club says, “This is the third year of chess. The reason I started doing it was that I have all these chess books and chess boards that were my sons. He died in a skateboarding accident at the age of 21.”
She runs this club to see people enjoy chess just as he did. The chess tournaments are something very special to her.
Chess club is both relaxing and competitive. Students go to have fun, make friends, family, and compete in something they all love.
