From the Blog
Greetings, McNary Families,
Letter from the Principal
I hope this letter finds you well. Please take a moment to look through our newsletter that our team put together for you.
A couple weeks ago, we were able to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class of 2017. This particular group of students earned over $5,100,000 in scholarships, triple the dollar amount from the year before. We had twenty valedictorians (perfect 4.00 GPA) and six salutatorians (earned one B) in this amazing class.
Over the course of the school year, we had seven OSAA-sponsored teams that ranked in the top ten in the state academically. We also had our band, choir, and orchestra all complete and place in the top six in the state competition. For the third consecutive year, our school had more college credits earned through Chemeketa Community College than any other high school in Marion, Polk, or Yamhill Counties.
At McNary, we strive to be a world-class high school. We have very high expectations of our students because the staff here are invested in your child’s success. Our mission states that we are “bold enough to be the best in educating, nurturing, and inspiring.” We advocate for every student to be in one club, one sport, or one activity, every year of high school. We know that when your child is involved in a club, sport, or school-sponsored activity, they develop an emotional attachment to McNary, which translates into better attendance, grades, and attitudes and about learning and achieving.
In an effort to provide even more support for your son or daughter next year, we will be starting an advisory class. The intent of advisory will be to support all students as they navigate academics and also help each student plan for a career path once their formal education has concluded. We know that when students graduate from McNary, they will be confident and prepared.
Please remind your children to continue to read and keep their minds sharp over the summer. Best wishes for now, and we will see you on August 17th at our “Taking Care of Business Day.”
