March 2nd, the boys and girls soccer team was able to go to Kennedy Elementary to read to the kids for Read Across America day. Read Across America day is a part of the National Education Association (NEA). This nationwide event is a day to celebrate reading and happens annually on March 2nd for Dr.Seuss’ birthday.
“The impact we wanted to leave is the power of reading and education because with knowledge you can go as far as you want to go.”
Said Miguel Camarena, coach of the soccer team. He continued,
“We want all of our kids to grow in a healthy environment, to have better citizens to see them someday to become our doctors, lawyers, engineers, professional athletes, etc.”
In regards to the players having the opportunity read to the students, Mr.Camarena said,
“They felt so proud to represented McNary Boys and Girls Soccer Programs even more to represent McNary High School in this important event like reading across America. They were excited to read to the students, some of them to their siblings, to interact to former teachers and to have the opportunity to give back to the community.”
By the end of the day, everyone involved was happy with how everything went. Everyone had loads of fun and can’t wait for next year.
