Site Preparation for Bond Construction to Begin at McNary High School on Monday, June 3
May 31, 2019 By:Jason Heimerdinger
Improvements funded by the 2018 bond are set to begin early at McNary High School! Salem-Keizer’s construction firm on the McNary project, Pence Construction, is ready to move forward with work on the south part of the campus starting Monday, June 3.
Earth movers will start preparing the site of the current soccer and junior varsity softball fields to become the location for the replacement tennis courts, temporary portable classrooms and temporary student parking lot. The tennis courts need to be relocated to accommodate the new classroom addition planned for the north side of the main building. The temporary portable classrooms will provide classroom space for students during the next school year while portions of the main school building are unavailable due to construction. Replacement softball and soccer fields will be constructed to the northeast of the main school building in later phases of the project.
At the close of the school year, the McNary High School campus will become a construction zone and will be closed to visitors. During the summer, McNary’s office and summer school will be located at the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) located at 3501 Portland Road NE.
Thanks to the Salem and Keizer communities’ support of the 2018 bond, $620 million will be invested in schools across the district to relieve overcrowding, expand career and technical/vocational programs (CTE), improve safety and security and more. Work planned at McNary totals $52.6 million and includes an additional 14 classrooms, a new science lab, two additional CTE program spaces, additional spaces to support special education programs and music programs, additional parking, improved traffic flow, plus additional improvements.
