Roofing Work Begins Monday, Nov. 25
November 23, 2019 By:Karma Krause
Progress on bond-funded construction at McNary is moving along quickly! Work on the roof of the new addition on the south side of the school by the front entrance will begin on Monday, November 25.
We expect to experience odors from the roofing material for the duration of the work. Fortunately, if the weather holds, the roof work is only expected to take about three weeks.
We expect the strongest odors to be outside near the hot pot where the roofing material is prepared. We’re taking steps to minimize odors entering the building, such as turning off the intake fans and keeping doors and windows near the construction work closed. However, there may be some low-level odors noticed inside the building.
While roofing work is smelly, the smell from the materials does not present a hazard to staff, students or the community. Roofing workers will wear protective gear when working directly over the hot pot of materials. Protective gear is not necessary away from the hot pot. We do not expect the odors from roofing work will create problems for persons with health issues or sensitivities.
Construction contractors are positioning the hot pot in a location that hopes to minimize odors around the school and our neighbors at The Arbor at Avamere Court, but at the same time keeps it close enough to the construction zone to support the work.
Parents and students who have questions or concerns are asked to contact the school office at (503) 399-3233.
Neighbors and community members with questions or concerns are asked to contact Kyle Beaty, SKPS Project Manager firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for your patience and support during construction, and thank you for supporting the 2018 bond that is funding these important upgrades for our school.
