One of the key players in this years basketball season is Griffin Oliveira. Oliveira is one of the returning seniors on a young team. He is going to need to be a big leader to teach and show the underclassman how everything runs.
Oliveira has been playing basketball ever since second grade, and his love for the game has been getting stronger and stronger every year. This is turning out to be very beneficial because a lot of the core seniors have all been playing together since fifth grade so they work together well.
“I’m just excited to play with the boys that I have been playing with since fifth grade, make memories,” Oliveira said.
Reason for him playing for this long is because of his family and how they push him to pursue his goals, Oliveira said.
“It’s just ran in my family. My grandpa played, my dad played, my uncles played, so it’s always kind of run in the family.” He is striving to follow the family sport. Oliveira plays because of his love of the competition. He loves the atmosphere in the crunch time moments where it’s all on the line.
This year he has lot of goals for himself and what he wants to improve on.“To up his defense and guard the best player on the floor and up my leadership role.” Oliveira is wanting to become more of a defensive force and to be the best defensive player on the court at all times.
Another goal he has for himself is to be a better person and a leader for the team this year. He has been playing for McNary for the past 4 years and has gotten better every single year.
Overall Oliveira is just trying to improve the skill level on the court all around.
The Celts and Oliveira have a game tomorrow, December 12 against Gresham at Gresham.
