The McNary Celtic football team kicked off their season Friday, August 31, with a home game against the North Medford Black Tornadoes, which ended in a Celtics loss 27 to 55.
The game remained fairly close at the beginning, with North Medford leading 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
This lead was expanded in the second quarter, with North Medford scoring three more touchdowns to McNary’s one, and leading at halftime 34-14.
North Medford further grew this lead in the third quarter with two more touchdowns, to lead 55-14.
In the final quarter McNary began to catch up, scoring two last touchdowns, but it was already too late and the game ended with a final score of 55 North Medford to 27 McNary.
The OSAA has placed a greater emphasis this year on scheduling more out of conference games against evenly matched opponents. This game was an example of this with fourth place McNary from last year’s Greater Valley Conference facing off against fourth place North Medford from last year’s Southwest Conference .
