Mr. Michael Melting, a valued staff member at McNary and an important part of the Keizer and Salem community, is a winner of the 2018 Crystal Apple Award.
Melting, with 11 other Salem-Keizer staff members, was awarded the honor at 6 pm, Thursday Nov. 1 during the annual Crystal Apple Award ceremony at the historic Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem. The award recognizes cutting edge before and after school programs throughout the school district.
“When I come to work as a teacher, I just do the best I can,” Melting said, “If that’s recognized as going above and beyond it’s through somebody else’s eyes.”
Every day Melting does his best to do his job to teach and build relationships with students here at McNary.
Melting has been teacher here for over a decade. “My favorite part about being a teacher is making a relationship with kids in the community,” he said.
He said that his students have taught him patience.
The nomination for a Crystal Apple is a three part process. It includes anonymous nominations from students, peers and administration.
