A new Spanish teacher at McNary is Mr. Julio Cuellar, teaching Spanish I and Spanish II. Cuellars’ biggest achievement is remembering all 233 students names.
“I would become a chef if I could do something else,” Cuellar said. He would like to be a chef because he loves to eat, and to try new foods. His favorite foods to cook are Italian and Hispanic.
Cuellar moved back here from eastern Oregon where he was a admissions counselor; because he grew up in Salem and wanted to help here in a way. Cuellar is also a soccer coach, he used to coach JV boys at McKay high school. “I enjoy working with youth and soccer is a passion,” Cuellar said. He only lost one game this year, in his first year of coaching.
Cuellar enjoys teaching because he likes how students grow, and how their faces look when they remember a new word in Spanish. “When students are learning new things their knowledge expands and grows; it’s awesome that they’re learning new things and apply it to the future.”
