Congratulations Celts! McNary High school has once again received the Nike School Innovation Fund Grant! This grant is presented to public high schools statewide to support programs and instruction for all students to promote college readiness. The Nike program hopes to, through this grant, actively encourage education through innovation, increase the rate of timely graduation throughout the state, and prepare students for college and careers.
This year 100 schools, including McNary, are being awarded these grants to expand and implement AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). In addition to receiving funds to train the McNary staff in AVID, Nike also donated $20,000 for our new college and career center. In the past, the grant has helped provide funding for training over 2,000 teachers and more than 100,000 students throughout Oregon, reflecting more than 57% of the state’s high-school population.
As a part of the grant announcement, the recently retired two-time Olympic Medalist and Nike athlete, Ashton Eaton, has turned his focus to lending his voice to elevate the efforts of NSIF and champion Oregon students and their futures. Nike’s new two-minute film on the Nike School Innovation Fund [click here] featuring Eaton, captures the impact of NSIF’s work with teachers and students.
