On Jan. 7 the Mcnary boys basketball team played against one of the top ten teams, Gresham and lost with a score of 42 to 70.
Mr. Ryan Kirch said, “Well you know, that’s a really talented team. They’re very good. I was disappointed in our competitiveness when we were on the court. I thought we played a little tentative and passive but I was proud of the way we finished.”
During the game, the boys lacked in competitiveness and couldn’t pull through in the first half. When they came back for the second half of the game, they were able to improve and pull things together with a better defense and offense.
Mr. Kirch said, “We learned and will learn what it takes to play at the next level. You play against a great team like this you’re able to see what it takes to be that elite and that where that team is, is where you want to go and so it’s good for us to experience what that’s like.”
A senior on the team, Jaime Ochao said, “I wish we wouldn’t have played so passive and that we were a little bit more aggressive.”
The team was timid and struggled with defense and transitions. At practice they try to work hard on defense and their offensive game as a team. In the future they hope to improve on their transition defense since they were slow with it during the game.
Even though they took a loss, it was a learning experience. They got a taste of what other teams are like and can now improve on how they perform and play.
