Lily Snyder, a junior here at McNary High school, has been a true Harry Potter fanatic since she first learned to read.
So, what hooked Snyder on the Harry Potter world by the well-known author J.K. Rowling? She simply liked the idea of magic! “I started reading the books in elementary school. My family liked it and I thought the magic was cool.” The books portray great themes of magic and incredibly sarcastic characters.
Between the books and the movies, Snyder prefers the books much more, as most of all readers and even movie fanatics do. “Books contain more details, emotions, characters, and scenes that movies can’t show due to a tight budget they have to work with. And I always wish things could be more accurate in movies compared to the books.” Her personal favorite is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The author of a book is free to write to their heart’s content with all the paper and ink they wish to use. “Until a movie is planted firmly between two covers and a spine, books will always be better.” This doesn’t go to show that Snyder does not enjoy the movies, she just finds the movies to be so good because the books are even better.
As far as carrying the magic of the Harry Potter World outside of the pages, Snyder has never dressed up as one of the beloved characters, however, she has gone on Pottermore: the digital heart of the wizarding world. There, you can find a patronus and house that suit your character and much more. Snyder is a member of the Ravenclaw House and has the patronus of a red squirrel.
Snyder hopes that in the future she can continue to gather after school with her friends and enjoy some of her favorite movies alongside them.
