This 2018-2019 bowling season is in full effect. The Celts bowling team is wanting to have a great season and they are looking for more participants this year so they can have a strong team.
There are about eight to nine male bowlers and five to six female bowlers. The girls team is looking for more bowlers to create a bigger team and fill a full squad of five, and possibly have two squads for each gender.
In bowling a full team is a group of five bowlers. There are tournaments held against other schools that are in the district and out of it. There are not divisions based on school size like in most sports, instead all schools face each other no matter how big or small the school is. Some of the strongest bowlers on the team this year are Mike Valdez, Chandler Gregory, and Spencer Schauer.
Schauer is a McNary sophomore has been bowling for the McNary team for two years now. He’s been bowling for nine years total. To mentally prepare for a tournament, “we try to not think about it too much and if it gets to our heads it can really mess us up… if you let it get to your head it can mess you up as well as the team,” he said.
The bowling team meets up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 4:00 to 5:30 at Town and Country bowling alley in Keizer.
