McNary softball knocked from playoffs

The McNary softball team had their playoff run ended in the second round with a 9-0 loss to the Sheldon Fighting Irish on Wednesday, May 22.
McNary’s first batter began the game by striking out. But her teammates came back, with Abigail Covalt and Taylor Ebbs both hitting singles. Before the next two McNary batters earned outs, advancing the game to the bottom of the first.
Sheldon started out the inning strong with their first six batters all getting either singles or walks, earning two runs and one out in the process. Faith Danner struck out the next two batters to end the first inning with the Celtics down 2-0.
In the second inning McNary alternated with the first and third batters getting walked, while the second and fourth batters hit outs. The next batter hit a fly out, ending the top of the second.
After McNary earned a ground out on Sheldon’s first batter, their second hit a home run, earning the Fighting Irish’s third run. Sheldon’s next batter hit a single and stole second base. With the next batter getting her to third off of her fly out. The next batter hit a single, earning an RBI( Run batted in). The next batter hit a ground out, ending the second inning with McNary down 4-0.
McNary began the third inning with a batter getting struck out, followed by Ebbs hitting a triple, before the next two batters hit pop outs.
In the third inning McNary earned a double play off of Sheldon’s first two batters. Sheldon began to come back from this, earning two singles and a walk to load the bases. However, Sheldon’s next batter hit a ground out, keeping the score 4-0 after the third inning.
McNary’s first batter hit a ground out, and their second got out while trying to reach second base off of Hannah Ebner’s single. Kamryn Miller then hit a double, putting runners on second and third. But with a ground out from the next batter, the top of the fourth inning was over.
Sheldon’s fourth inning was a mixture of ground outs and singles. This earned them two RBIs before they got their third out. Bringing their lead up to 6-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
Sheldon’s defense in the fifth inning got out all of McNary’s first three batters. McNary returned the favor and ended the inning on Sheldon’s fourth batter, with a runner still on third to keep the score 6-0 with two innings left.
In the sixth inning Sheldon’s defense stayed strong, getting a line out on McNary’s first batter, and striking out their third and fourth batters.
Sheldon started the bottom of the sixth inning strong, hitting a single followed by a home run. The next Sheldon batter hit a fly out, and the one after her struck out. The batter after her was walked, and the two after her both hit singles, earning an RBI. McNary earned a ground out on the next batter, going into the last inning with a 9-0 deficit.
McNary’s next two batters both hit fly outs to start the seventh inning. The next two began to turn it around however, with Covalt and Ebbs both hitting singles. But the next batter hit a pop out. Ending the game while McNary was still down 9-0, eliminating them from the playoffs.
Following this game, Sheldon went on to win the whole tournament, becoming this year’s state champions.
