A comedy with murder. Death by Design was McNary High school’s first play of the 2018-2019 school year directed by Mrs. Laura Reid. The play premiered on October 18, at 7pm with its last showing on October 20.
Death by Design is commonly viewed as a play with a plot from an Agatha Christie novel with the comedic wits of Noel Coward. The play takes place during the year 1932 where famous playwright Edward Bennett (played by Connor McCormack) and his wife Sorel Bennett (Rachel Herriges) flee to their countryside manor with their sassy irish maid Bridget (Madelyn Hurst) and their charming chauffeur Jack (Jonathan Echavarria Valladares) only to be visited by the timid politician Walter (Crash Diarmit), the fiery and possibly insane socialist Eric (Michael Zwemke), the zany modern dancer Victoria (Mercedes Feinauer) and the near-sighted ingénue Alice (Elise Myers) with each of them holding a dark secret; they knew it was going to be a long night. But when one of their many unexpected visitors are murdered everyone turns into a suspect with only Bridget being the only one capable of solving this unfortunate event.
With only 6-Weeks to prepare, Mrs Laura Reid had concerns for the cast on whether they could remember their lines, but when the curtain raised, the cast gave a wonderful performance. With this performance, you can bet people are excited about their very own variation of Grease.
