Celtics Top Titans in Intense Thriller, Breaking 11 Year Losing Streak

In the game between the McNary Celtics and the West Salem Titans, the Celtics were the underdog of the match. With an astonishing 7-0 league record held by the Titans, the brooms were coming out looking for the league sweep. The Celtics had other thoughts.
The start of the first quarter, McNary comes out strong scoring twice. Josiah Gilbert runs up the middle for a score as well throwing a 74 yard long bomb to Brendan Van Voorhis. On the day, Brendan Van Voorhis caught 4 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.
One missed PAT (Point After Touchdown) and the Celtics were up 13-0 to the almighty Titans.
West Salem did not go down easy as they scored 4 more times to the Celtics 3 before the end of the first half. The score was 19-29.
McNary Senior Running back AJ Johnk, felt like it was time to turn the game around. Johnk ran the ball 12 times, racking up 135 yards of rushing and scoring two rushing touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. Averaging about 11.2 yards a carry.
After Johnk’s second rushing score, McNary decided to go for two, down 32-31. A well coached and talented offensive line for McNary was ready for the challenge, as McNary called upon the services of Senior Running back Marc Baiza. The two point conversion was successful and put McNary up 33-32 in the beginning of the forth quarter.
Crunch time approached, and McNary’s defense faced some pressure in the forth quarter. McNary stood tall in the final 12 minute battle, holding West Salem scoreless in the forth. McNary had done what seemed impossible. Beating West Salem on their own turf.
McNary is now entering the playoffs and will face Tigard in the first round.
