This year’s boys tennis is looking good. There are 16 players, and the team captain is senior Johnny Trinh. The most difficult team to play against is Sprague according to Coach Laura Reid.
Most of the people on the team are new and haven’t played tennis before. Most of the boys don’t play for a club. According to Coach Reid, the ones that have played before have shown lots of improvement. Compared to all the other schools in the conference, McNary has the highest GPA for athletic students. The team does very well compared to kids that are in a club and practice over the summer. Their weakness is that a lot of the players are inexperienced. The team’s strength is that they really come together.
During practice they do a lot of conditioning, build on skills, work on technique, footwork, and hand-eye coordination. “The goal for this year is to beat North and improve,” said Coach Reid.
One of the players on the team is German exchange student, Mats Schiefer. He has been playing for five years. His plan for this season is to do well in districts.
Coach Reid has been coaching for six years. Freshman Noah Kuhl said “she is an awesome coach”.
This year’s team captain is “a great example of a student,” said Coach Reid. He has been accepted and is going to Oregon State University next year.
