Celtic Announcements for 9/6/13

Welcome Back Celts!  Here's what's happening at McNary.  Check this blog throughout the year for info on what's going on at McNary.

Please come join with other students, sports teams, clubs, and community groups on Saturday, September 7 starting at 9AM for our Blue Pride Celtic Cleanup Day.  We are joining together to spruce up our campus for the new school year and could use your help. Please bring gloves and garden tools. This is a great opportunity for those students in need of community service hours.

The first Relay for Life meeting of the year will be Wednesday the 11th after school in room 261, if you’re interested in joining the fight to find a cure for cancer, please show up to the meeting and get more information.

Junior and senior girls interested in playing powder puff should meet in room 156 (Mrs. Rhoades’ room) Today, Sept 6th after school.

Students: You are a part of McNary history, so be sure to purchase your 2013-14 McNary High School Yearbook! Get them now at the special low price of $45. Prices will increase beginning mid-October, so order your yearbook now! You can purchase your yearbook by visiting the book keeper, located in the main hall. You can also purchase them at

Congratulations, senior! Hopefully, you are enjoying your supreme status on campus so far! It is also time to do all the special “senior” stuff that you will get to look back on and remember forever.

One of those experiences is obtaining your senior picture, and it's that time! If you have not scheduled with a photographer yet, be sure you begin to look into your options. Your senior photo is due to the yearbook staff NO LATER than October 25th. There are also many requirements that accompany the photo, for example:

  1.  Men should not wear hats
  2. Women should not wear spaghetti straps or show cleavage
  3. The photos need to be a certain size
  4. Photos should be color

It's very important that you check the McNary website for all of the requirements before submitting your photo. Click on “Yearbook” on the left side of the homepage for a full page about senior pictures.

Finally, you can submit your photo by uploading it to Jostens website. It's fast, simple, and the link is on the McNary website!

On Wednesday, October 16th  McNary High School hosting our Annual College and Career Day.  Freshmen and Senior’s will participate grade specific activities while the Sophomore will take part in the PSAT and the Junior Class will have the choice to take either the PSAT or ASVAB.

What’s the difference between the PSAT and the ASVAB you ask? Well…

The PSAT will help you prepare for the SAT and is the first step towards college. Sophomores test for free and do not need to register.  For everyone else, the cost is $16.00.

The ASVAB is a free program for juniors that helps identify student career interests.  The cost is free!

Junior’s, you will register with your Social Studies Teachers starting Sept 9!  If you do not have a Social Studies Class, come see Mrs. VanBuskirk in the Testing Lab Room 266.

If you are on a free or reduced lunch you may qualify for a fee waiver which allows you to take the PSAT for free?  Make an appointment with your counselor today to see if you qualify.

The first Pep Assembly of the year is next Friday

Summer Bond Renovations at McNary

The summer brought additional bond-funded renovations and repairs to our school.

McNary High roofing

McNary High School received replacement on some roof sections, and stage rigging & equipment inspections and repairs during the summer, which means this fall our students have a healthier and safer learning environment.

McNary High roofing

The repair work is thanks to the support of our local voters who approved a $242.1 million construction bond measure in November 2008.

The projects that took place across the district this summer are in addition to the work originally planned under the bond.

Because of a competitive bid environment, lower inflation, strong management of the program and earnings on the bond funds, the district has a total of about $67 million in unspent funds after the completion of planned renovations and repairs.

Allocation of the unspent funds was recommended by the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee and approved by the School Board. This summer’s projects were funded by a portion of the unspent funds.

Feel free to share the good news of the construction bond and the improvements it has brought to the quality of our education facilities, to the learning environment, and benefit for our community.
