Kaiser Permanente Youth Exploration Academy in Healthcare – A program focused on providing students with exposure to various healthcare pathways through a summer program. Students will GET PAID $100 to attend the camp and explore potential careers in the healthcare field! Click here for the program flyer and here for the application. Summer Beaver to Be Days An opportunity for high school seniors to see what the College of Business at OSU has to offer. Being part of the College of Business means students are not just reading about what businesses do or crunching numbers, they are also doing the things businesses do.  Our first-year students are actively building teams, launching businesses and developing products. Norpac Foods (positions in Brooks, Salem, Stayton) is hiring students 16 years and older for summer seasonal work. Multiple positions entry level positions are available. Students are asked to apply in person.  For more information click HERE

Ride Aid Distribution Center is hiring individuals 18 years and older for summer seasonal work in their Wilsonville Warehouse. Pay begins at $13.25 per hour.  For More information and a copy of the Application please see Mrs. Farris in the College and Career Center. OR Click HERE

Interested in a career in the dental field?  7: 30 AM, Friday, June 9th Oregon Institute of Technology will be here to present information on their Dental Hygienist program. If you would like to learn more about the dental program at OIT, please sign up this week to attend with Mrs. Farris in the College and Career Center.

Wednesday, June 7th Donate Life NW will be here to present information about the importance of considering organ donation.  If you are interested in learning more about becoming an Organ Donor. Or would like to hear about how you can become involved in educating peers and the community about this program. Please sign up with Mrs. Farris in the College and Career Center to attend this presentation 10:45 AM during 7th period on Wednesday.

May 29 – June 2

Interested in becoming a pilot or going into the aerospace industry? Saturday, June 10th is your opportunity to join the Young Eagles Rally at the Independence State Airport. Students up to 17 years old can learn about the aviation industry, take a flight in an airplane, receive ground school training and receive a EAA Eagle Certificate which would qualify you to receive a Flight training course free of charge! Students must bring a parent to this event to sign their registration form to participate in the free flight experience. Click HERE for more information.

Opportunity for a graduating McNary Senior. SS Steiner is a local company hiring a Full Time Receptionist/Office Assistant which includes full time hourly wage, and benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement. See Mrs. Farris today for directions to apply for this position.

Seniors!  The State of Oregon is piloting a program that will TRAIN and pay students as they earn their Building Code Inspector Certification. This program is a 10 month program that begins in September and will conclude June 2018. Upon completion, students are guaranteed a career as a Building Code Inspector and will begin making between $40-50,000 per year. For more information please stop by the College and Career Center and talk with Mrs. Farris! You must pre-register for an informational meeting scheduled at CTEC on June 14 at 2:00 PM

May 15-19

Juniors Scholarship information is beginning to arrive! Find out more about two great scholarship opportunities on Thursday, May 25th at 1:00 PM in the College and Career Center. The 2017 “Beat the Odds Scholarship” is looking for applicants with a 3.0+ GPA (or may be under 3.0,), who is active in our High School and/or Keizer community , demonstrates financial need, is willing to share their story, and  has succeeded in spite of hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness, or personal tragedy.  The ACT SIX Scholarship  is a leadership development and college scholarship program that brings together diverse, multicultural cadres of emerging leaders who want to use their college education to make a difference on campus and in their communities at home.

May 8-12

SENIORS! Who has made a positive influence in your life during your years at McNary?  Nominate one of your fellow McNary Graduates for The Terri Oldham $500 scholarship! If your nomination is chosen you will also receive $50! Think of those who assisted you with school work, were valuable help while participating in sports, drama, band, a club or other extracurricular activities. Maybe they have been instrumental in discouraging others from participating in unhealthy behaviors or have made a difference in the lives of their peers. Nominate your fellow graduate today by completing a nomination form In the college and Career Center. All applications are due this Friday May 15th!

Claggett Creek Middle School is hosting a College and Community Resources Fair on Thursday, May 11th from 5 – 7:00 PM.  There will be food, prizes, medical screenings and information about local community resources. Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Western Oregon University, Willamette University, Chemeketa and Linn Benton Community College will also attend this community event. Are you familiar with the “Ideas Worth Spreading” that come from the TED series of videos? Well for the last three years Salem has put on its own TED event called TEDx and this year they would like to form a student committee to assist in the coordination and planning of the event. If you would like to be considered for one of the committee spots then fill out the online application, we’ll have the link on the McNary Webpage Blog as well as on Celtic Territory. Office of Oregon Governor Kate Brown: Internship Program: Constituent Services – Interested in being an Intern for the State of Oregon!  This is an unpaid internship that would be a great resume builder and an opportunity to gain real world experience in a professional office environment, develop marketable skills,  and participate in public service. See the College and Career Center Job Board or Mrs. Farris for more information.

Interested in being a Summer Camp Counselor? Volunteer your time to give a kid with neuromuscular disease the best week of their year!  MDA Summer is short on male volunteers! The MDA Summer Camp is designed to allow each child to have their own counselor to help take care of them for the week. Right now they still need 20 more male volunteers for the week of July 15-21 If you are interested please see Mrs. Farris for more information!

“College and Scholarship Organization” Seminar – Wednesday, May 10 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM  Juniors! This is a great way for you to prepare and get ready for your senior year! Mrs. Farris has great information and will give you great organization strategies, hints on how to request recommendation letters, organizing your college and scholarship applications and essays while keeping track of your personal information as you manage Financial Aid and other username and password information. Being organized your Senior year is the key!

“Writing College and Scholarship Essays that get Noticed” Seminar – Thursday, May 11 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM  Juniors! This seminar Mrs. Farris will give you some specific ideas of how to write College and Scholarship Essays that stand out. Beginning now will give you a head start and you will be able to start the process of writing a solid essay that you can use for multiple scholarship and college applications in the fall.

Looking for a Summer Job? Personnel Source of Salem will be visiting McNary High School on Monday, May 22nd. During both lunches you can receive information about Fair Job Opportunities, pick up applications and get your questions answered.

Thursday, May 4th – 11:15 AM – Chemeketa Community College Presentation for SENIORS: Seniors planning to attend this fall 2017! This presentation is extremely important for our students to attend. Chemeketa representatives will be going over final admission information, advising for fall classes, and financial aid information!

Students 18 years or older with a basic knowledge of mechanics are encouraged to apply for the Trailer Technician job at MAY Trucking. Pay ranges from $13.50 -$15.50 per hour. See Mrs. Farris for an application or more information if you are interested.

Seniors! May 1st is over however we are extending all scholarship reporting.  Please report all scholarships you have received to Mrs. Farris in the College and Career Center as soon as possible!

April 24-28

Junior College Jumpstart is this Tuesday, April 25th at 6:30 PM in the McNary Library!  All Juniors and parents/legal guardians should attend to receive college planning….college, financial aid and scholarship application information, SAT/ACT Testing info, etc.  Scott Gragg will also be presenting a NCAA Eligibility Information session at 7:30 PM for student athletes considering playing at the college level.

Seniors need to report ALL scholarships this week! Students should be listing academic scholarships given by schools they will be attending in the fall. Some students think they shouldn’t report these since this type of scholarship may have been automatically  awarded based on their application. Also, Chemeketa Scholars and Oregon Promise should also be reported. Please send students to the College and Career Center if they have any questions about reporting.

Lucille Middleton Scholarships is due THIS Wednesday, April 26th This application is for students considering a career in education! It’s a simple application without financial need or  a GPA requirement

April 17-21

SENIORS!  It’s Time to report Scholarships you have been awarded! Scholarships awarded to you at the college/university you will be attending (this includes: academic, sport, talent, and all institutional scholarships given). Also, scholarships and awards given by a local, state or national business or organization should also be reported. Please report your scholarship HERE.

The Lois J Erickson Scholarship is a $1000 – $10,000 local scholarship due April 28th! Any graduating McNary Senior whose parent is employed in the field of police, fire, or EMT, including support staff. OR whose parent or legal guardian is a Salem/Keizer teacher who has taught at McNary or a McNary feeder school for a minimum of five years. This senior must have plans to further his/her education by attending any accredited institution of higher education, including trade or business schools, two year community colleges, four year colleges leading to a bachelor’s degree and graduate or professional schools.

Seniors! Nominate friend for the Terri Oldham Scholarship! This $500 cash award  will be given at the conclusion of the McNary Graduation Party. This award recognizes an outstanding student who has made a positive contribution in the McNary High School Community! Stop by the College and Career Center to pick up the nomination forms!

Sterling Law Offices College Scholarship is $1000 award towards a student’s academic goals. “We believe in education and want to curb the cost of education for students.” This scholarship is open to high school seniors preparing for their first year of college (open to any area of study) as well as students already enrolled full-time. Must be a resident of the United States, have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Application includes requires an essay, cover letter and information about the college you will be attending in the fall. April 10 – 17 

Beginning this week the announcements for the College and Career Center will not only be given during morning announcements, but will also be posted here on the McNary College and Career Center Website

The Sodexo Scholarship Deadline is April 27th.  This scholarship is for any high school senior who shows interest in the culinary or hospitality field. Students who have been enrolled in culinary or hospitality classes during their high school education are also eligible to apply for this $1000 Scholarship to any accredited two or four year college/university!

William and Terri Frohnmayer Scholarship this scholarship committee has the discretion to award students anywhere from  $1000-$10,000! Deadline: April 14th! Those eligible to apply must be United States Citizens and Senior athletes with a 3.0 or higher GPA.  Apply for this amazing scholarship TODAY. Applications can be printed from the McNary Scholarship webpage or copies are available in the College and Career Centre!

Safeway Career Fair is Wednesday, April 12th at the Keizer Heritage Center. Human Resource and Hiring managers will be accepting resumes, interviewing and hiring at this event!  Pre-Apply On-line HERE   All attending the career fair will need to bring Photo ID, a resume and must dress for success. See Mrs. Farris for more information.

Center 50 +  is looking for some McNary students to help them with two upcoming events.  Volunteer Friday, April 21st 4:00pm-8:00pm for their Volunteer Luau dinner.  Setting up, serving, clearing tables for their event. Friday, May 12th 1:30pm – 4:30pm they are also looking for volunteers for a Mother’s Day Tea. Sign up by calling Karen Randall at 503-588-6303.

6 Rotary Scholarships are also currently available and must be turned into Mrs. Farris by April 13th. These local scholarships are for students with a minimum  3.25 GPA and has plans to further their education at a 2 or 4 year college or university.

The Mike and Sue Doherty Scholarship is open to any male, graduating senior who is a participant in a school team sport and has a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Applications must be turned into Mrs. Farris by Friday, April 14th!

McNary seniors interested in studying education in college should apply for the Lucille Middleton Scholarship. This $500 Scholarship is due on April  26th!

Oregon State University Fraternity Scholarships – Two Fraternities are offering scholarships (students are not required to join the fraternity). Acacia Fraternity Men’s Scholarship deadline is June 1 and Phi Gamma Delta Doc Gilfillan Memorial Scholarship deadline is May 10.
