Riley Flores is on the McNary’s boys varsity basketball team. His coaches see him as a reliable leader on the team.
Flores is a senior at McNary. He has been playing basketball since first grade and he is a wing (position) on the team. Flores’s plan for after high school is to attend a college in Boise or Arizona. He wants to major in business economics but he does not plan to play basketball in college.
The boy’s basketball coaches believe that Flores is one of the leaders on the team because he is supportive and contributions to the team. Flores tries his best to be a good team player and stay positive throughout games and practices. “I usually stay composed throughout the game and keep my emotions controlled,” Flores said. This helps the team because he is a calm neutral on the team and is always relied on. Flores does his best to call the right plays and he usually succeeds to do so. These are some components to why Flores is a good team player and why his coaches chose him to be one of the leaders.
Flores believes that the boys varsity team works well together and is a close team. The team is a better group this year and they have a tighter bond. “I want to surprise everyone by coming out with a way stronger team this year,” Flores said. His goals for the season is to win more games and have the team work better together on the court. Flores thinks they will do so this year because his coaches are helping them to succeed. They play everyday and are working hard every practice.
For Flores personally, his biggest competitor is South Salem High School. South has previous students from McNary on their basketball team. This creates friendly competition and rivalry. “I’m excited to play them,” Flores said.
